Escape Room Field Trip CT: A Designer’s Guide by a REACT Owner
I’ve watched a decade of school groups walk through REACT. Fourth graders on a Friday afternoon field trip. Middle school gifted programs mid-week. High school honor societies on end-of-year celebrations. After that many groups, I can tell you which room fits which age, and why the match matters more than the timing.
If you’re planning an escape room field trip in CT, the biggest decision isn’t when to go. It’s which room you book.

Why an escape room works as a field trip
Museums and movies pull attention forward and let the quiet kid stay quiet. Bowling and mini-golf split the group into pairs and small clusters that never re-form. An escape room does the opposite. It puts every student inside the same story with the same clock, and the only way through is to talk to each other.
The teamwork isn’t lectured, it’s earned. Students who never raise their hand in class find something they notice first. Students who dominate group projects learn to listen when someone else spots the pattern. And you, the teacher, get to watch it happen. That’s the piece most field trips don’t offer: a real view of how your students work together, outside the classroom’s usual dynamics.
Every game at REACT is a private booking, which matters more for school groups than for any other audience. No strangers in the room. No shared time slots. Just your class, your hour, your story.
Which REACT escape room field trip fits which grade
Not every room fits every age. Here’s how I’d match them.
Elementary school groups (grades 3 through 5)
Jurassic Jungle. Full stop.
The room is exploration-driven and prehistoric-themed, which lands squarely in the age group’s imagination. Puzzle difficulty scales to first-time players, so no student gets left behind. The story pulls them forward without needing them to sit still and listen, which is exactly the field-trip goal for this age.
Fourth-grade groups inside Jurassic Jungle tend to spread out fast and discover things everywhere at once. The room is designed to reward that energy, not fight it.
Middle school groups (grades 6 through 8)
Two options, and the decision guide matters.
Jurassic Jungle is the right pick for groups newer to escape rooms, mixed-maturity groups, or groups where you want the confidence-building of a room most teams solve within the hour. The same reasons it works for elementary scale up cleanly for middle school.
The Haunted Mansion: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery is the right pick for groups ready for puzzle density and atmospheric tone. It’s Victorian-detective framed, eerie rather than scary, and the puzzles reward students who slow down and read carefully. A middle school group with a few players who’ve done escape rooms before will love this room.
How to decide: if your group has done escape rooms before or the maturity skews high, book Haunted Mansion. If it’s their first time or the group runs younger, stay with Jurassic Jungle.
High school groups (grades 9 through 12)
It’s REACT’s largest room, built for up to 15 players, spanning multiple environments that unfold as the group progresses. The sci-fi tone lands with the age, and the multi-room design means students naturally split into sub-teams tackling parallel puzzles. That’s how high school students actually collaborate: not as one unit, but as small clusters that share findings as they go. The room rewards that structure.
For high school groups already familiar with our current adventures, our next room, Raiders of the Lost Room: Escape from Newgate Prison, opens soon and will be built with the same large-group dynamics in mind.
Corridor logistics for CT and Western MA schools
REACT sits in Windsor Locks, minutes from I-91 and Bradley International Airport, between Hartford and Springfield. Most schools in the corridor are within a 30-minute drive:
- Hartford, East Hartford, Manchester: 15 to 20 minutes
- Enfield, Windsor, Suffield: 10 to 15 minutes
- Springfield MA and surrounding towns: 20 to 30 minutes via I-91
There’s plenty of on-site parking for buses, and drop-off works without advance coordination.
A few logistics teachers ask about most:
- Waivers. Participants under 18 need a parent or guardian-signed waiver. Download the waiver from our website and collect signatures before the day of.
- Chaperones. We recommend at least one chaperone per booked room. Bring any additional chaperones your district requires for the trip overall.
- Timing. Plan for about 90 minutes on-site per group: 15-minute briefing, 60-minute experience, 15-minute debrief.
- Lunch. For larger groups splitting across multiple rooms, our event space is available as an add-on so the group can regroup, eat, and share stories between sessions.
Booking your escape room field trip CT
Pricing starts at $30 per student, with a $29 refundable deposit to secure your date and time. Every room is a private booking, so you’re paying for the room itself, not sharing it with other groups.
Group size math is the piece worth understanding up front. Each REACT adventure accommodates 2 to 12 players in the same space. For groups larger than 12, we run parallel sessions across multiple rooms simultaneously, which lets a class of 25 or 60 or 100 play together at the same time across our facility.
To hold a date, book at bookeo.com/reactrooms. For larger groups or coordinated multi-room bookings, call us at (860) 370-5415 and we’ll help you plan the timing.
Escape room field trip CT FAQs
What grade levels work best for an escape room field trip?
Grades 3 through 12. Younger than third grade, students typically don’t yet have the reading and problem-solving foundation the rooms rely on. From third grade up, there’s a room that fits.
How many students can participate?
Each REACT adventure holds 2 to 12 players. For larger classes, we run multiple rooms in parallel, so a class of 25, 60, or 100 can all play at the same time across our facility.
How long is the experience?
Plan for about 90 minutes on-site: a 15-minute briefing, the 60-minute room, and a 15-minute debrief.
How much does it cost per student?
Pricing starts at $30 per student for private group bookings. A $29 refundable deposit secures your date and time.
What chaperone ratio do you recommend?
We recommend at least one chaperone per booked room. Bring any additional chaperones your district requires for the trip overall.
Do you have space for lunch?
Yes. Our event space is available as an add-on, which works well for larger groups splitting across parallel sessions and wanting to regroup between rooms.
The bottom line
The right escape room field trip in CT is the one that fits your grade band, not the one with the closest availability. Jurassic Jungle for elementary. Jurassic Jungle or Haunted Mansion for middle school, depending on the group. The Strangest Things for high school.
Book the room that fits, and your students will still be talking about the field trip in June.
